Barber Bridge (Hwy 60) Vero Beach

Barber Bridge (Hwy 60) Vero Beach
The Barber Bridge provides access from the mainland Vero Beach with the barrier island portion of Vero Beach and is an extension of Highway 60.  Highway 60 begins at the Atlantic Ocean in Vero Beach and travels to the west coast through downtown Tampa to the Gulf of Mexico.

The bridge was designed to allow sailboats to pass under without the drawbridge you typically find in South Florida.  The drawbridge delays traffic for boaters as well as rush hour travellers in South Florida.  The traffic in Vero Beach moves smoothly and quickly with the design of our high bridges.  Vero Beach has three similar bridges linking the mainland and the barrier island.  The 17th Street/Causeway Bridge is a mile south of the Barber Bridge, and the Hwy 510 Bridge is located closer to Sebastian and links to the north end of Vero Beach near the Disney Vero Beach Oceanfront Resort on A1A.

Wide beaches of white sand, sea grapes growing at the upper beach ...this is what Vero Beach is about. No tall high-rise condos clutter the skyline,  low profile buildings and ample green spaces of lush tropical vegetation exemplify Vero Beach.   As you drive down A1A, the beach highway, you will often only see lush landscaping on the side of the road and only a glimps of homes through the Bougainvillea and Hibiscus.  Many oceanfront communities have their own private beach access for residents. Several public beaches serve area residents.

The Los Angles Dodgers spring training camp and Vero Beach Dodgers baseball teams provide a great deal of spirit and entertainment in Vero Beach and the Treasure Coast.  The Dodger's games are open to the public at Holman Stadium located near the Vero Beach Airport and Piper Aircraft on Aviation Boulevard/26th Street in Vero Beach, just east of 43rd Avenue.   Dodgertown also hosts a convention and conference center with is active throughout the year.

Indian River Shores is a small town located on the Barrier Island within the Vero Beach metropolitan area.  Indian River Shores consistently ranks among the higest number of Millionaires in the USA, and highest per capita income and assets. Indian River Shores supports it's own police and fire department, supported by the Indian River County Sheriff's Office and Fire Department.  Indian River Shores is located on the Barrier Island north of the central beach area of Vero Beach.  The only commercial area includes the Village Shops on A1A.

Royal Palm Park is located at the tip of Royal Palm Pointe Boulevard which is located off Indian River Boulevard. Royal Palm Pointe is a boulevard full of flowering Hibiscus, Bougainvillea and Oleanders.  Along the boulevard you will find art galleries, boutique shops, jewelry stores, and popular restaurants.

At the end of Royal Palm on the tip of the peninsula, you will find a public park set on the Indian River with an observation platform scenic lookout to watch for dolphins and passing boats.  The park has a fountain where children can run through the spraying water and cool off on a hot summer day.  Royal Palm Pointe Park is a relaxing place to visit.

Vero Beach

Vero Beach is located next to the Atlantic Ocean half way between Palm Beach and Cape Canaveral. The Indian River, part of the Intracoastal Waterway, glides through Vero Beach creating a barrier island with lush tropical landscape and pristine beaches.  The central part of the beach, along Ocean Boulevard has wonderful restaurants, botique shops, art galleries and small hotels.  The central original town of Vero Beach is located on the mainland near Hwy 60, also known as 20th Street, and 14th Avenue. In this area there are stores, the Court House, Main Library and County Offices. Many of the large original churches are located near the Library.  The principal shopping areas of Vero Beach are the Indian River Mall, located along 20th Street (Hwy 60) between 58th & 66th Avenues, the Outlet Mall located at Hwy 60 and I-95, Miracle Mile located near 20th Street and Indian River Boulevard, and several smaller shopping areas around 14th Street and US 1.

All of the schools are a part of the Indian River County School System, and private schools are available as well.  Vero Beach High School serves all of Vero Beach, and the Charter High School located near the Community College accepts students upon approval based upon their academic skills and independent work habits.

Oslo Middle School serves the south half of Vero Beach, and Gifford Middle School serves the north half of Vero Beach and most of the Barrier Island.   There are two Magnet Elementary Schools, Rosewood and Oscelola whos attendance depends upon admission requirements for students who performance demonstrates an aptitude for either the arts or sciences.

The Vero Beach Museum of Art is located in Riverside Park with a beautiful view of the Indian River and only a few blocks from the Atlantic Ocean.  The Museum is host to changing art exhibits throughout the year.  Classes are available for local residents to express themselves in a variety of media: watercolors; oils, sculpture and metals.

Atlantis, an oceanfront gated community located south of The Moorings in Vero Beach. Atlantis has 34 home sites with homes ranging from 1,500 to over 3,000 sq ft. of living area east of A1A. Residents of Atlantis have private deeded beach access. The homes in Atlantis were built between 1986 and 2005, with most constructed in the 90's.

This is a very upscale community, and very conveniently located.  Homes were constructed between 1992 and 2002.

Bermuda Club has a deeded beach access for residents near the entrance, a clubhouse with exercise room and swimming pool. There are several small communities within Bermuda Club of similar style, each developed by a quality local builder.  There are also several three story luxury condo buildings with incredible river views. 

Resale home prices in Bermuda Club typically range from the mid $500's to upper $700's, and riverfront condo units higher.  The homes are generally new to 6 years old, and range from 2,000 to 3.600 sq ft of living area, with many homes averaging about 2,600 sq ft. There are 102 homesites in Bermuda Club.

Cache Cay is a river front community of 95 home sites located just north of the central beach area. The gated community is an island surrounded by the river and adjoining canals. There are a few non-waterfront homes in Cache Cay and some fresh water lakefront homes, although the majority are waterfront homes with deep water dockage and no fixed bridges to the ocean.   Homes in Cache Cay were custom built in the 80's and 90's, some by Arthur Rutenberg homes.  Homes range from 2,000 to 3,800 sq ft of living area.   Non-Waterfront homes sell from the $600's, with waterfront homes well over $1 Million. Cache Cay has a manned gated entry. 

Most of the homes in Cache Cay have direct riverfront deep water dockage with no fixed bridges to the ocean.  The Sebastian Inlet has one high bridge, however the Fort Pierce Inlet is nearby and has no fixed bridges to access Cache Cay and is a much safer inlet for access.  Cache Cay is only minutes by car from the central beach area of Vero Beach where the best restaurants and shopping are located. Cache Cay is also a short drive north of the Hwy 60 Barber Bridge with quick access to supermarkets, the hospital and the Mall.

Castaway Cove is one of the perpetual favorites in Vero Beach for many reasons. There are 6 "waves" of Castaway Cove, each a gated community located just south of the central beach area and the 17th Street/Causeway Bridge.  They are convenient to the beach with their own deeded beach access within the community, convenient to mainland shopping and central beach restaurants on Ocean Drive, and the homes are within the price range of those wanting to be "On the Beach".

The Estuary is a gated community of 88 home sites, conveniently located just north of the central village of the Central Beach area.  The gated entry with 24 hour security guard is located off Fred Tuerk Drive away from the lightly travelled A1A.  The community has lakeside courtyard homes and canal front homes for boating enthusiasts.  The canals lead to the Indian River and the ocean with high fixed bridges.

Lakeside homes generally have over 2,500 sq ft of living area or much more and are priced from the $700's to over $1 million.  Canal front estate custom homes with direct ocean access have 3,000 sq ft to over 5,000 sq ft of living area and are richly appointed with custom cabinetry and imported woods. Canal homes range from $1.5 million, with most well over $2 million.  The first homes were completed in 1998 with homes currently under construction in 2007.

The Estuary is draped with old oak trees and winding streets. It is convenient to town and a few blocks to the beach.  This is a community worth seeing !!!!

Gracewood Lane is a small gated oceanfront community of 17 homnes. The street is lined with old live oak trees. The homes are generally behind the coastal construction line and not in a flood zone.  Each of the homes were custom built with full features, ranging from 2,800 to over 5,500 sq ft of living area from 1996 to 2004. This is a beautiful community with it's own private beach access. The beach is wide and high in this area.

The Island Club is a gated community in two phases located between A1A and the River, with river view homes with a total of 259 homes in the two phases.  Phase I homes were built from 1997 to 2000 with floor plans from 1,500 to 2,200 sq ft of living area built by Homes by Beazer. Resale homes currently sell in the $450,000+ range. 

The last phase completed in 2006 by Homes by Calton are from 2,200 to 3,600 sq ft of living area with resale homes selling from $500,000 to $750,000 with River Front homes well over $1 million. Some of the homes front a small interior freshwater lake.

The Jungle Trail is a historial dirt road traveling by the side of the river from John's Island north to Hwy 510. The riverfront homes in the Island Club are on a bluff overlooking the river, with the Jungle Trail below them. The riverfront homes do not front on the river.

Marbrisa is an ocean to river gated community which includes an Ocean Front beach club with Swimming Pool for all residents as well as ocean front townhomes.  On the west side of A1A, Garden Villas are on Carmel Drive as you enter, with custom single family homes built in the mid 90's surrounded by lush mature landscaping as you approach the river. There are over 50 villas and 100 single family homes, with the villas constructed from 1988 to 1993 and single family homes constructed in the late 90's to 2003.

The villas range from 1,800 to 2,200 sq ft of living area with resale homes in the $500's. The oceanfront townhomes, Marbrisa Seaside Village, are two story with about 2,400 sq ft of living area with resales in the $600,000+ range.
Single family homes range from 2,000 to 4,500 sq ft of living area and resales are generally sell from the $500's to $900's with riverfront homes over a million.  The riverfront homes have a great river view, however the Jungle Trail road is located between the home and the river. The riverfront homes sit up on a bluff above the road.

Ocean Colony is a small gated ocean front community of 29 custom homes located just north of the central beach area.  The custom homes were built from 1994 to 2007, and range from 2,200 sq ft to over 6,000 sq ft.  Residents have deeded beach access, and several mansions are ocean front. The community has mature lush tropical landscape.  Home prices begin at $1 million with oceanfront mansions over $4 million.

Ocean Oaks is an Ocean Front gated community with beach access. Ocean Oaks West has beautiful new homes with a British West Indies style generally 3,800 to 5,000 sq ft of living area, over One Third Acre lots, each home with four bedrooms each with their own ensuite bath, tile roof, 14' ceilings and gourmet kitchens.  The new custom homes in Ocean Oaks West  are only 8 to 12 houses away from the ocean and beach access. Custom homes were constructed beginning in 1982 with many homes constructed in the 90's and the most recent homes completed in 2002. Although some homes have 2,200 sq ft of living area, most homes have about 3,000 sq ft of living area.  Resale prices for non waterfront homes begin in the $600's with oceanfront homes well over $1 million.

Old Riomar is a beachside community surrounding the Riomar Country Golf and Country Club, east of A1A, and just south of the central beach area.  Most of the homes are either ocean front or within 2-3 blocks of the ocean, many located on the golf course. Majestic Oaks - Vero Beach

Majestic Oaks is a gated community with swimming pool surrounding two lakes on the south east side of Vero Beach, just south of Oslo Road on SW 27th Avenue.  The community was constructed in 2004-2006 of concrete block homes according to the new hurricane standard of one and two story from 1,500 to 3,000 sq ft of living area. Central Beach Area - Vero Beach

The Central Beach area of Vero Beach is located within the city limits, and is located on the Barrier Island called Orchid Island.  The central beach area is generally described as the area from the Causeway Bridge on the south, including the central beach shopping area on Ocean Drive and Riverside Park, going north to Bethel Creek and Jaycee Park on the ocean.

Homes in this area were once custom built and have a great deal of charm and detail. Peppertree has a fantastic location west of A1A in Indian River Shores, just north of Pebble Bay and Vera Cruz.  It has a convenient location to the central beach area shops and restaurants.  Peppertree has a hammock of mature oak trees and winding streets. Timber Ridge
