The Central Beach area of Vero Beach is located within the city limits, and is located on the Barrier Island called Orchid Island.  The central beach area is generally described as the area from the Causeway Bridge on the south, including the central beach shopping area on Ocean Drive and Riverside Park, going north to Bethel Creek and Jaycee Park on the ocean. Homes in this area were once custom built and have a great deal of charm and detail. Vero Shores is a waterfront community with homes located along salt-water canals leading from the Indian River. These canals have no fixed bridges to the ocean at the Fort Pierce Inlet.  The water depth varies with some canals permitting boats up to 24-30" draft with other canals permitting over 36' draft.  The subdivision is located between US 1 and the Indian River (Intracoastal Waterway) on the southeast portion of Vero Beach, conveniently located to the Fort Pierce Inlet.
